As your child’s school librarian I have a once in a life time dream job. Having the ability to see all the students of Oasis Elementary and help them find the joy of reading is an ultimate vision. As their librarian, my goal is for everyone to seek knowledge through books and reading. By working with parents who are the child’s first and most valuable teacher, we can nurture their love of reading. This is accomplished through time spend reading, reviewing comprehension, vocabulary, and most importantly, demonstrating our love of reading. The library is the hub of our school and is open for all to visit. Stop by and experience the excitement.
This is my twelfth year in education; two years teaching second grade and now in my second year as the school librarian. I have been with Oasis Charter Elementary School since its inception. Through the years, I have created many reading incentive programs at the Oasis Elementary to encourage and influence children to read; The Books and Buttons Reading Club, AR Fun Day, SSYRA; Sunshine Young Readers Award Reading Incentive Program, and Family Reading Nights and The Battle of the Books. This year, the newest program for Kindergarten – Second Grade will be the SSYRA Jr.
I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with ESOL from Barry University and a Master’s of Art in Library and Information Science from University of South Florida. Bokeelia has been my home for the past twenty-four years with my husband Spencer and Pug dog Earnie. Of course, spending time at home relaxing with a book and a Pug on my lap is utopia.
